THE KNIFE GAME AROUND THE WORLD!
Over the past few years “The Knife Game Song” has grown to be a memorable and enjoyed song and game played by people all around the world. I have seen covers being sung in all different languages in all different countries. This got me to thinking, “What if knife game song fans from all nations could collaborate together on a single new video, a new extended Knife Game Song sung in all different languages pieced together for a worldwide youtube video?”
Well that is exactly what I am proposing we do!
So today, I am announcing the beginning of “The Knife Game Around The World”. I am calling on people internationally to join the collaboration and submit a video of you playing “Five Finger Fillet” (Yes actually playing the knife game) while singing the lyrics in your native language.
If I can get enough quality submissions from all different languages, then I can start to put them together into the collaboration video for Youtube. So if you are a international fan of The Knife Game Song, and think you got what it takes to play five finger fillet while singing in your native language, then continue below to find out how the recording and submission requirements.
1. WHAT WILL YOU BE SUBMITTING?
Each submission should be of you playing Five Finger Fillet while singing the following lyrics in your native language (non-English):
“I have all my fingers,
The Knife goes chop chop chop,
If I miss the spaces in between,
My fingers will come off,
And If I hit my fingers,
The blood will soon come out,
But all the same I play this game
Cause that’s what it’s all about!”
That’s it! If you are able to sing and play at the same time then you are half way there to getting your submission chosen. There are just a few other requirements.
2. WHAT LANGUAGES WILL BE INCLUDED?
Ideally, I would like to get as many different submissions in as many different languages as I can for the best video possible. I have already had several people interested in submitting videos in German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Japanese, etc… So there is a good chance I will have multiple submissions for the same language. After reviewing each, I will be picking the best submissions from each language to use in the final video. So make sure you record the highest quality video and audio you can to better your chances of getting chosen.
There are no limitations on which languages will be chosen, the more diversity the better.
** I understand that many languages will require you to reword some of the lyrics to make them fit the timing. THAT’S PERFECTLY FINE, if you have to tweak the words a bit, by all means do so.
3. HOW SHOULD I RECORD THE VIDEO AND AUDIO?
This is the most important part!
AUDIO: Because I will have to edit in all the submission’s audio to the same song, it is crucial that everyone is singing the song in the same key, and at the same tempo. That way, it doesn’t sound like a jumbled mess. So here is what I have done to make it easy:
I have created an instrumental version of the Knife Game Song that loops for 2 minutes. Submitters will download this loop in the link below, and listen to it through headphones while they record. This will ensure that all submissions are at the correct tempo and are being sung at the same key.
The Knife Game Instrumental Loop https://rustycage.bandcamp.com/track/the-knife-game-instrumental-loop
By listening to the song through headphones, you can record JUST your vocals without the instrumental track playing in the background.
VIDEO: Each video submission must show the performer’s face while they sing, as well as their full hand and knife as they play five finger fillet. The best shot will be one like what you see below:
Here is an example of how a submission should look. **Note: Submissions should not have the instrumental track audio included. VOCAL AUDIO ONLY**
**AUDIO AND VIDEO SHOULD BE RECORDED IN THE HIGHEST QUALITY POSSIBLE**
- Recorded the cleanest audio you can, so that it can be mixed into the final video.
- Video should be recorded at 1080p if possible, but 720p will be acceptable.
4. HOW DO I SUBMIT MY VIDEO?
If you feel like you have an awesome video and are ready to submit it, do the following steps:
- Upload your video to YouTube, in the best quality you can, with the Title
“The Knife Game World – [the language you sung it in]”
So if you sung a German version it will look like this:
“The Knife Game World – German”
**make sure your video is public so I can see it**
- Once your video is uploaded, send a link to the video to me through my twitter @RustyCageMusic . And include the #KnifeGameWorld
- When I receive submissions in enough languages, I will begin to go through and pick out the best videos to include in the final project. If your video is picked, I will contact you for further information.
- Remember, I will only be picking the best quality submission for each language. So if submitted a Spanish version, and I picked a different one, it’s not because I hate you, but because I had to choose between multiple Spanish submissions.
5. THANK YOU ALL AND GOOD LUCK!
I am excited to be putting this project together, and I think once it is finished, we will have created an incredible video and song of people all around the world singing The Knife Game Song in every language!
